Who is a mobile developer?



At the first glance it may seem easy: a mobile developer is the one who creates applications for mobile devices. It is correct. Though most people who aren’t involved in IT, understand mobile devices as smartphones and tablets. However, we all realize that the term “mobile devices” does not only refer to well-known gadgets, wearables, but also different scientific machines, components of research systems based on gadgets and IoT components. It is the whole world of tools which will grow even more – mobile apps are being popular among private customers, business, healthcare, science etc. Therefore, mobile developer is a profession of the future, at least for the nearest 10-15 years for sure.

Nowadays mobile developers are demanded everywhere: corporate applications utilise mobile versions, media does it as well, business players actively transfer their loyalty programmes to applications (most of us is likely to have numerous retail applications – from Ahsan to L’etual) Mobile app is a guarantee of being around a customer all the time, most companies understand it. I will list the most promising industries that today’s students who wish to step into mobile developing world (as well as by the others) can orient on.

- Mobile games and entertaining apps – such an enormous industry willing to employ developers on multiple levels. The world is full of games, hence there is a demand for any age-group: from the youngest children to grown-ups playing their favourite mobile games.

- Applications at the edge of entertainment and education, such as the ones for learning languages, reading books, listening to music and travelling (it soon comes back with a better quality and it will be exciting), workouts etc.

- Banking applications – mobile banks in our usage employ complicated loaded systems with featured interface, and therefore skilled developers are required. Yes, junior worker is unlikely to get into such a team, however for middle-level and senior workers there is a range of nice perspectives.

- E-commerce applications – almost all the shops are being available in form of an application; it is a tremendous infrastructure having high labour market capacity. I think this field is about to develop further.

- Scientific and research applications. During one of DevFest arranged by Google, representatives of Mera company were talking about scientific project on coral investigation where knot with android tablet was functioning as a basis. Such projects
are ranked as an absolutely exclusive type of mobile developing for ones who want to be closer to the scientific world.

On the whole, it feels that the current COVID-19 pandemic will change the world, and new long-lasting demand for applications for remote god-knows-what, delivery for every restaurant and cafè, education, sports and numerous other things will be formed. It will affect the increase in demand for mobile development and, connectedly, mobile developers. So, aside from general market dynamics, there is a force majeure involved that will bring benefits to the mobile developing sector.
